Coast and dunal Landscapes of Castellaneta Marina

The redevelopment project of the Castellaneta Marina coastal strip, located in the SCI IT9130006 area, represents an example of how naturalistic engineering can be effectively employed to counteract coastal erosion and promote environmental sustainability. The main objective of this intervention was to preserve and recover the coastal dunes, which are fundamental for biodiversity and natural protection against erosive phenomena.

A key component of the project was the implementation of controlled access to beaches via the installation of elevated wooden walkways, which allow the natural beauty of the area to be enjoyed without compromising the integrity of the delicate dune ecosystem. These structures minimize the impact of visitors on the dunes, reducing the risk of erosion from trampling.

At the same time, restoration and restoration interventions were carried out on the dunes through advanced naturalistic engineering techniques. Among these, the use of gratings and box plantings played a crucial role in stabilizing the dunes, supporting the growth of native plant species selected for their effectiveness in soil fixation and resistance to maritime environments.

In addition, the project included the construction of new sea access equipment and the updating of information signage along the coast. The latter aims to raise awareness among bathers and visitors regarding the importance of dune conservation and responsible practices on the beach, educating the public on the ecological importance of these natural structures.

With a holistic and environmentally friendly approach, the Castellaneta Marina project not only protects a coastal landscape of exceptional value but also transforms the area into an accessible and informative space, increasing public awareness and promoting the long-term conservation of these vital habitats.
