Environmental Restoration of Cologno Monzese’s Landfill

The environmental and landscape redevelopment project of the industrial waste landfill in Cologno Monzese represents an important intervention to transform a degraded area into a vast 150,000 m² public park. This initiative is located within a broader context of urban regeneration, aimed at restoring environmental and social value to previously unused spaces.

The conversion of the landfill into a public park not only regenerates an extensive area but also introduces a variety of recreational equipment that enriches the social and cultural fabric of the municipality. Among them, the park offers rock walls dedicated to sport climbing and skate facilities, providing new opportunities for active leisure. In addition, play areas dedicated to children and spaces for outdoor performances were created, transforming the area into a meeting and community activity point.

The design of the park required a careful study of the conditions of the site, with particular attention to safety and environmental sustainability. The selection of plant species, the management of surface water and the choice of eco-compatible materials were central aspects of the project, aimed at ensuring long life and minimal maintenance of the park.

The new public park not only improves the quality of urban life but also serves as a model of how brownfield industrial areas can be transformed into valuable resources for the community, promoting biodiversity and social cohesion.
