The Grand Hotel in San Pellegrino Terme, a notable example of Art Nouveau architecture built at the beginning of the 20th century, was recently the subject of a careful renovation process which renewed both the building and its external areas. This project represents an impeccable fusion of historicity and modernity, destined to restore an architectural icon to its former glory.
The external renovation is spread over three main areas: the ‘Brembo Terrace’, the service garden, and the ‘South Park’. The
Brembo Terrace, which serves as the main entrance to the hotel, has been transformed into a meeting point between the past of the Liberty garden and a contemporary design, reflecting the elegance and historicity of the hotel itself.
The central path of the terrace, made of washed gravel, not only organizes the space in a functional way but guides visitors through a unique visual and sensorial experience, among flower beds and elegantly paved areas. The flowerbeds are designed with slight undulations of the soil to enhance the arrangement of the plants, including ground cover, perennial herbaceous and bulbous species. This choice guarantees a variety of blooms during all seasons, avoiding the use of annual plants.
Each element of the exterior design was carefully studied to harmonize with the Liberty architecture of the building, creating a coherent dialogue between interior and exterior and enhancing the historical monument. The renovation project not only recovers and enhances the historical elements of the garden but also introduces innovations that respond to contemporary needs for functionality and aesthetics.
The reorganization of the external areas contributes to defining the Grand Hotel of San Pellegrino Terme as an important destination in the tourist and cultural panorama, reaffirming its role as a symbol of
elegance and point of reference in the history of the Italian architectural landscape.
