Ortolini Park

The redevelopment project of the Ortolini Park, located in Martina Franca, aims to transform an existing public area into an innovative and sustainable green lung, seamlessly integrated into the urban environment. This intervention involves a series of significant improvements, ranging from the regulation of rainwater, which has

so far been uncontrolled, to the creation of a more accessible and welcoming environment for citizens who will be able to enjoy it in close contact with Mediterranean nature. 

Advanced stormwater management, via natural channels and seepage basins, is accompanied by naturalistic engineering interventions to prevent erosion and improve the resilience of the park to climate change. In fact, the new engineering system will be able to retain critical precipitation with a return time of 10 years. The effective rainfall volume relating to this event is approximately 3100 m3. In parallel, the area is being enriched with new plantings of native species through urban forestation works of approx. 2.5 ha, chosen for their ability to integrate into the local ecosystem and reduce maintenance. 

The design of the park includes the revision of the internal paths, making them more accessible and equipped with areas shaded by new trees, children’s play areas, spaces for sporting activities and picnic areas. This renovation not only improves the attractiveness and functionality of the park but promotes environmental well-being. 

The project also encourages community interaction and environmental education through the introduction of information signage and the proposal of dissemination activities that raise visitors’ awareness of sustainability issues. These initiatives are designed to stimulate active participation by the local community in the care and use of the park. 

With these interventions, the Ortolini Park is destined to become a model of urban regeneration, which connects people with nature and improves the quality of urban life, making Martina Franca an example of a greener, more inclusive and sustainable city.
