The project covers a 5,800 mq block, strategically located in the heart of the city center of Borgaro Torinese and close to the main municipal services. The new plan includes a square and a new gathering space for the city, featuring a central garden.
The proposal is to shape a contemporary square, able to establish a dialogue with historical pre-existing constructions, an interaction between paved areas and green spaces, serving a gathering and socializing purpouse, making space for leisure, play time and events, providing a place for rest, intimacy, and privacy in a space in contact with nature.
Facing north, the space opens on the town hall, while the sides are softened by tree-lined rows and green beds, designed as sustainable drain system as a support for sewers. In the centre of the square, is placed a great garden, surronded by trees, covered in grass, with an artificial pond accessible by terraces used also as seats and urban furniture.
The water element recalls the canal that runs under the area, and at the same time, co-operating with the trees, it aims to reduce the urban heat island phenomenon, improving the microclimate inside the urban area. The new square has also been conceived as a ‘watersquare’ thanks to an . La nuova piazza è stata inoltre concepita come una ‘watersquare’ thanks to the design that uses the planned slope inside the space.
The project is founded on the concept of “green city approach” that finalizes the well-being, social inclusion and developement of the city towards standards of environmental quality, efficiency and circularity of resources, and adaptation to climate change.
